Ambassador Cruise Line confirms 2027 Solar Eclipse Cruise sailing from Dundee

Ambition - Ambassador Cruise Line at Cork, Ireland (Cobh Cruise Terminal)Ambassador Cruise Line is offering guests from Dundee and further afield a rare opportunity to witness next summer’s total solar eclipse as part of a very special 19-night Mediterranean Moments & Solar Eclipse sailing.

The cruise will take place aboard Ambition, Ambassador’s second lady of the sea whose inaugural sailing was from Dundee in May 2023 when she was named by her Dundonian Godmother, Shirley Robertson, the first British woman to win gold medals at two consecutive Olympic Games.

This 2027 cruise follows a very special week for the Ambassador Group, which saw all three ships operate dedicated itineraries timed around the 12 August 2026 total solar eclipse*.

Ambience carried 1,587 guests to experience the event at sea off the coast of Gijón in northern Spain, while 1,097 guests aboard Ambition witnessed the eclipse near Ittoqqortoormiit, off the east coast of Greenland. Renaissance also operated a dedicated French eclipse cruise in the Mediterranean, with specialist astronomers, aurora experts and astrophotographers across the fleet helping bring the spectacle to life for guests.

2027 Mediterranean Moments & Solar Eclipse Cruise

Offering guests the convenience of embarking on a great adventure without needing to navigate airport queues or contemplate potential flight disruptions, this no-fly cruise aboard Ambassador’s second lady of the sea, Ambition, departs Dundee on 27 July 2027.

She will head south towards Portugal and the Mediterranean, arriving in Gibraltar on 2 August, the day of the total solar eclipse, offering guests the opportunity to experience the phenomenon in the path of totality.

On the day of the eclipse, guests on this adult-only sailing will gather on deck as daylight gradually fades and the totality reveals the Sun’s corona at approximately 10.45 am. The event will be the longest total solar eclipse visible anywhere on Earth between 2009 and 2114, with guests aboard Ambition set to experience around four and a half minutes of totality while in Gibraltar.

Following the eclipse, Ambition will continue her 19-night voyage with calls at Almeria, Alicante, Valencia and Ibiza before visiting the historic Cadiz. A final call at Vigo, gateway to Santiago de Compostela, follows on the return journey before Ambition arrives back in Dundee on 15 August.

“This week has shown just how special an eclipse cruise can be,” explains Bob McGowan, Chief Experience Officer, Ambassador Cruise Line. “Across the Ambassador Group, we had three ships in three very different locations, all giving our guests the opportunity to share the same extraordinary natural event with friends old and new.

“Experiencing a total solar eclipse is something that features on many people’s bucket lists, so we are delighted to be doing it all over again in 2027. Our 19-night Mediterranean Moments & Solar Eclipse sailing aboard Ambition will combine the convenience of departing on a no-fly cruise with the opportunity to witness totality in Gibraltar and discover some fantastic destinations across Portugal and Spain. We look forward to revealing more about the special programme we are putting together for guests on board in the weeks and months ahead.”
